The Indiana Farriers’ Association

What’s in it for you?  Educational Clinics

The IFA put on one big clinic a year, plus a small clinic that goes along with our annual forging and shoeing contest.  Although the clinics, where we bring in top farriers and veterinarians from around the world, are valuable, our bi-yearly hammer-in gatherings are equally as productive.  At these informal gatherings, we have the opportunity to share with and learn from each other.  Additionally, we work with and participate in clinics coordinated by the Indiana Horse Council, the Indiana Association of Equine Practitioners and various other professional organizations.

What’s in it for you?  Professional Affiliations

As a chapter member of the American Farrier’s Association, the IFA and its members are represented to the American Horse Council, the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Horse Shows Association and many other influential equine and legislative organizations.  Within Indiana, we have strong ties and formal liaisons with the Indiana Horse Council, the Indiana Association of Equine Practitioners and the Hoosier Horse Fair.  These relationships provide us with educational opportunities, exposure, and legislative input.  Another affiliation, which many farriers will eventually benefit from, is our arrangement with the veterinary students at Purdue University.

What’s in it for you?  Hammer-Ins/Picnic

We put on two hammer-ins a year, one in the spring and the other in the fall.  Even though hammer-ins are educational we also have fun, whether it is playing in the forges or just sitting around eating and catching up on each others lives.  We also have a picnic every fall, some come and eat, some stay longer, camping and trail riding are available.  These social events are great family get-togethers.

Who is the IFA?  YOU
